Bologna, Italy

A historic city known for its food, mideival architecture, and the oldest university in Europe (founded in 1088), Bologna was a great stop on our way up through Italy. Our time there was greatly benefited by Elena Sofia Canuti's generocity to host us for 2 nights! Despite some rain, we had a great time relaxing and exploring the city's cuisine, buildings, gelato offerings.

Porticos
Bologna's city planners were brilliant- knowing that it would frequently rain in the city, they built over 40km of porticos, or covered walkways, so no pedestrians would have to get wet! It is the longest network of covered walkways in the world.
